The X2Y capacitor is a four terminal element composed of two capacitors A and B, which are respectively connected to a pair of common ground terminals.
So how do you measure the actual capacitance of the X2Y capacitor as it is expressed in the data sheet?
Typically, the capacitance value represented by the part number of the X2Y capacitor represents only the nominal value of capacitor A (or capacitor B). Therefore, if X2Y is connected to "Circuit 1" as shown below, there will be a capacitor between each line and "ground" (0 volts).
To measure the actual capacitance value of X2Y, refer to the following typical circuit. The capacitance value should be measured between A and G (ie G1 or G2 after connection) and / or between B and G. If C>1nF, the general frequency measurement is about 1KHz. If C≤1nF, the general frequency measurement is about 1MHz.
