The characteristics of the ceramic capacitor in the circuit

In the circuit, we can often see the figure of porcelain capacitor. The structure of porcelain capacitor is relatively simple, that is, porcelain tiles are alternately folded together and sintered together. Because porcelain capacitors are small in size and low in cost, they are widely used. What are the characteristics of ceramic capacitors in circuits? The editors summarize the following four categories:

 

1) Small size. The ceramic chip has a simple structure and a small size, and the 0402 or 0201 package of ceramic capacitors are widely used in a wide range of applications such as mobile phones.

 

2) The electric property is stable and the temperature is less.

 

3) ESR, ESL value is very low, and the self resonance frequency is high. It can be applied to the filtering requirements of several MHz to 1GHz on PCB.

 

4) Due to the multilayer structure characteristics and encapsulation reason, bending resistance is poor, and PCB bending deformation may cause capacitance cracking failure.

According to the above device characteristics, ceramic capacitors are widely used in many applications such as isolation, coupling, bypass and so on. Its working frequency is much higher than that of electrolytic capacitor, and it can meet the application environment of several MHz to 1GHz.
