 In the single-phase motor, another method of producing rotating magnetic field is named 'Shaded  Pole ', also named 'Single-phase Shaded Pole Motor'.

 This kind of motor stator is made a type of convex pole, two polars and four poles. There is a small  slot which divide the pole into two parts in the 1/3-1/4 of each pole,a short circuited copper ring is  set on the small part which seems to cover this magnetic pole, so we call it ' Shaded Pole Motor'.

The single-phase winding is matching installed on the whole magnetic pole ,also the coils of each  pole are in series,and the polarity must be arranged according to N, S, N and S when it's connecting.

When the stator windings are energized, the main magnetic flux is generated in the magnetic poles,  according to Lenz, the induction current which lag of 90 degrees in phase is produced by the main  flux when it passes through as short ciruited in the copper ring ,the flux of this current also lags behind  the main flux,its function that producing a rotating magnetic field to run the motor is simialr to the  start winding of capacitive motor .
