    To prevent these from happening, a hollow reactor can be serially connected in each phase of the compensating capacitor bank to limit the current. The synthetic reactance of the capacitor circuit becomes inductive reactance for the high order harmonics. The third harmonic is short-circuited because of the connection of the transformer in the high order harmonics, so this is a measure for more than five harmonics. If the reactance of the series reactor causes the fifth harmonic resonance, the fifth harmonic is short-circuited. For the high order harmonics above the fifth harmonic, the waveform is improved because the capacitor circuit becomes inductive, thus eliminating the possibility of resonance fundamentally.
