Application of varistor in washing machines

Varistor is an electronic component with significant non-ohmic conductor properties. The resistance value will change with the external voltage, so its current and voltage characteristic curve has significant non-linearity. varistor is widely used in electronic circuits to protect circuits from damage due to transient voltage surges in power supply systems. The structural characteristics of varistor are different from ordinary resistors. It is made based on the nonlinear characteristics of semiconductor materials.

 

Ordinary resistors follow Ohm's law; voltage and current of varistor have a special non-linear relationship. When the high voltage comes, the resistance of the varistor decreases and the current is shunted, protecting sensitive electronic components. Varistor is an indispensable component on washing machines. At present, zinc oxide varistor is used more.

 

The main applications of varistor in washing machines are:

 

1. Connection between power cords or between power cord and ground. Generally, accessing varistor between lines can induce pulses between lines, while accessing varistor between lines and ground can induce pulses between transmission lines and the ground. If the two forms of line-to-line connection and line-to-ground connection are further combined, the surge pulse can be better absorbed.

 

2. Connections under load. It is mainly used to absorb the induction pulse caused by the sudden opening and closing of the inductive load to prevent the component from being damaged. Generally, as long as it is connected in parallel to the inductive load, it can be considered to be combined with the R-C series absorption circuit according to the type and amount of current.

 

3. Connection between contacts. This connection is mainly to prevent the contact of the inductive charge switch from being burned by the arc. Generally, a varistor can be connected in parallel with the contact.

 

4. Protective connection for semiconductor devices. This connection method is mainly used for semiconductor devices such as thyristors and high-power triodes. Generally, it is used in parallel with the protection device to control the voltage lower than the withstand voltage level of the protected device.
