Film capacitors can be classified into two types based on the type of current: DC and AC.
In DC applications, film capacitors are recognized for their high capacitance, low voltage rating, polarity, and self-healing properties. They are also favored for their high reliability, good temperature stability, and long lifespan.
These capacitors are mainly used in motor drives, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), solar inverters, electronic ballasts, small automotive motors, household appliances, and various power supplies. In motor inverters, film capacitors, acting as DC-Link capacitors, have two main functions: smoothing the bus voltage and reducing line inductance.
For AC applications, film capacitors, with their small capacitance and high voltage withstand characteristics, have become key components for the starting and operation of industrial AC power supplies and asynchronous motors. They are widely used in AC output filters, especially in the output filters of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and photovoltaic inverters.
In photovoltaic inverters, thin-film capacitors handle high pulse currents at the DC-Link terminal, helping to stabilize voltage fluctuations at the inverter terminals. This is crucial for the stability and performance of the photovoltaic equipment.
