The application of metal film capacitors in the aerospace industry is a key area of exploration for the global aerospace and defense industries, as it reveals the future technological frontiers. Clues have already emerged in some areas. Autonomous flight aircraft, faster helicopters, rapid spacecraft launch technology, and brain-like computers are just some examples; some technologies have not only yielded results but have even completed prototype manufacturing.

These are undoubtedly the technological frontiers in the aerospace and defense fields and a focus of attention. Besides these cutting-edge technological explorations, the progress of large-scale research and development projects is also noteworthy, as they will all have an impact on their respective fields or regions. But how are metal film capacitors used in the aerospace industry?

With the rapid development of computer technology, the ever-increasing energy consumption of computers has become an issue that cannot be ignored. This is especially true in the defense sector, where computer systems running complex software and possessing high-performance graphics and video processing capabilities consume even more energy.

In 2015, the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, in conjunction with several other military departments, tested a new high-performance, low-power computer processor using IBM's TrueNorth chip. Each TrueNorth chip uses 5.4 billion transistors, equivalent to 1 million neurons and 256 million synapses. These are divided into 4,096 structures called "synaptic nuclei." Each of these structures can use a communication mode called crossbar to store, process, and transmit data to other structures.

More importantly, this chip has extremely low power consumption. A standard microprocessor currently consumes 50 to 100 watts per square centimeter, while TrueNorth consumes less than 70 milliwatts. A processor built using TrueNorth chips, with the equivalent power of the human brain, would be only 12.5 centimeters in size and consume less than 1 kilowatt.

With the development of technology, the application areas of metal film capacitors will become increasingly broad. If you have any technical questions, please contact us; we will do our best to solve them for you.
