What problems might arise from potentially defective film capacitors

Film capacitors are composed of many basic components. Due to limitations in raw materials and manufacturing processes, inexperienced manufacturers, inadequate equipment, and small workshops can lead to potential problems with film capacitors. For example, issues such as dielectric damage, mechanical damage, pinholes, and low cleanliness can easily occur during production.

These factors contribute to the short lifespan and susceptibility to breakdown of film capacitors. Overvoltages, overcurrents, and ambient low temperatures caused by various factors within the system can lead to dielectric breakdown at these film points. Breakdown usually generates sparks, which further expand the circuit, resulting in multi-layer short circuits or even short circuits of the entire component. The voltage across components connected in series with the breakdown component will increase, thereby increasing the voltage across the remaining components and the current through each component. This will cause the components to age rapidly and generate more heat.

Having reviewed the potential problems mentioned above, everyone should take them seriously. More importantly, choosing a reputable and experienced manufacturer during procurement can reduce trouble by half and ensure after-sales support, giving you peace of mind during use. For slightly lower-priced film capacitors, we should compare prices from at least three suppliers, starting with quality when making our purchase.
