Talking about leaded ceramic capacitor

Compared with common chip ceramic capacitors, ceramic capacitors with leads have basically the same internal structure. Although they are only different in package, they have unique features and applications, especially in response to noise countermeasures, substrate bending countermeasures, and DC. The leaded ceramic capacitor is a radial lead type ceramic capacitor which is bonded to the outer electrode of the MLCC by soldering two wires and then coated with a resin coating. Such a capacitor not only has the special characteristics of the MLCC, but also blends the wires. It reduces the effects of mechanical and thermal loads, the insulation properties of the resin coating and the effect of humidity isolation.

The stress caused by the bending of the substrate may cause cracking of the solder joint portion of the element, especially the dielectric ceramic which is the body of the MLCC capacitor element, although its resistance to compressive stress is strong, the tensile stress resistance is weak, and the package portion is weak. The bending stress of the substrate causes cracking of the capacitor element body itself. Cracking of the capacitor element body may result in performance degradation when the open circuit is not good, and may cause heat generation, smoke, fire, etc. when the short circuit is not good.

In an in-vehicle electronic device that is subjected to mechanical loads such as vibrations, shocks, and the like, and a thermal load caused by severe temperature changes, the solution to such a substrate bending problem is to replace the MLCC with a leaded ceramic capacitor. Wire-wound ceramic capacitors can also maintain high reliability in equipment that frequently causes shocks such as keyless start, smart start, and the like.
