Do you know what a capacitor is? I believe many people know and have seen that capacitors bring us great convenience and can store electrical energy, such as power banks. There are also many types of capacitors. Let’s talk about pulse capacitors and hope it will help you.

Introduction to Capacitors:

Two conductors close to each other, with a non-conductive insulating medium in between, constitute a capacitor. When a voltage is applied between the two plates of the capacitor, the capacitor will store charge. The capacitance of a capacitor is numerically equal to the ratio of the amount of charge on one conductive plate to the voltage between the two plates. The basic unit of capacitance of a capacitor is Farad (F). In circuit diagrams, the letter C is usually used to indicate capacitive elements.

Capacitors play an important role in circuits such as tuning, bypassing, coupling, and filtering. It is used in the tuning circuit of the transistor radio, and also used in the coupling circuit and bypass circuit of the color TV.

With the rapid development of electronic information technology, the update speed of digital electronic products is getting faster and faster. The production and sales of consumer electronic products such as flat-panel TVs (LCD and PDP), notebook computers, digital cameras and other products continue to grow, which has driven The capacitor industry is growing.

What is the difference between high voltage pulse capacitor and ordinary capacitor?

There are two types of high-voltage pulse capacitors: one is thin-film type and the other is ceramic type. Compared with thin films, ceramics have higher voltage characteristics. The advantage of film capacitors is that their capacity is higher than ceramic capacitors.

The commonly used pulse ceramic capacitor is PC ceramic. This ceramic capacitor with a dielectric constant of 400 can operate from -55 degrees to +125 degrees. The temperature change rate is less than 5%. It has super-strong voltage characteristics and pulse characteristics. The current optoelectronic military equipment and electromagnetic pulse military equipment mostly use PC materials. Its pulse life is more than 1 million times.

Of course, there are also test-level pulse capacitors. Many scientific research institutes choose N4700 ceramic material as pulse capacitor. This material can also meet the needs of users to a certain extent, but if a large number of equipment is used, the life expectancy is insufficient. This kind of product in the capacitor industry is approximately between 3000 to 50,000 pulse life.

The dielectric constant of N4700 medium is between 1800 and 2000. The temperature range is between -25 degrees and +85 degrees, and the temperature change rate is about 20%.

Therefore, in the field of ceramic capacitors, the PC pulse medium is the real pulse capacitor.

Three advantages of PC pulse capacitor

1. Pulse voltage: PC pulse capacitors have extremely high voltage endurance, especially the impulse high voltage endurance, which is unmatched by other capacitors. Generally, a 50KV pulse capacitor can withstand a pulse voltage of 80KV. This is also rare in the field of high-voltage ceramic capacitors;

2. High and low temperature characteristics: PC capacitors can be used in lower cold environments, such as minus 50 degrees, and can also be used in high temperature environments, such as high temperature 125 degrees;

3. Pulse life: PC capacitors have high reliability, long-term operation within the rated voltage, and its pulse life is more than 1 million times.

Pulse capacitor function

Due to the high reliability of PC pulse capacitors, this pulse capacitor can be used in most high-tech military equipment. For example, laser (photoelectric) weapons, electromagnetic guns, electromagnetic wave weapons, electronic jamming, radar equipment, communication launches, etc. It also has better applications in some high-end civilian markets, such as laser cutting and other mechanical fields.
