The ceramic capacitor is a capacitor made of a ceramic material as a medium, a metal film coated on the surface of the ceramic, and then sintered at a high temperature as an electrode. The ceramic capacitors are divided into high frequency porcelain and low frequency ceramic. A capacitor with a small positive temperature coefficient of capacitance for use in a highly stable tank circuit as a loop capacitor and a pad capacitor.

 

Low-frequency ceramic capacitors are limited to bypass or DC-blocking in circuits with low operating frequencies, or where stability and loss are not critical, and should not be used in pulse circuits. So what is the role of ceramic capacitors in DC motors? The following is for everyone to explain.

 

The electrical noise of a DC motor is a spike voltage, which is mainly generated by a motor brush. The typical spectrum of the electrical noise of a DC motor generated by the disconnection of the brush and the commutator contact is a wide and messy pulse signal. If the necessary suppression measures are not taken, in many cases the electrical interference level will exceed the EMC limit, so the ceramic capacitor is needed to eliminate the noise and achieve the effect of passing EMC. The function of the capacitor is to bypass the voltage spike by providing a low impedance path to the common side of the noise source. It can be connected between each lead of the motor and ground, or between two leads. It is very effective to connect the ceramic capacitor between the brush and the ground.

 

In addition to adding ceramic capacitors, noise reduction can also place an inductive device directly on the brush. The function of the inductor is to prevent sudden changes in the brush current flowing through the commutator gap. The chokes connected in series in the circuit can be combined with the bypass capacitors to ground to form a low-pass filter, which can enhance the filtering effect of a single inductor or capacitor. Conventional practice is to add a ring varistor directly in the motor manufacturing process. .
