Power capacitors are mainly used for reactive power compensation or phase-shifting in the power system, and are installed at various levels of substation.
The normal operation of these capacitors plays an important role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of power supply and consumption. Following are the problems that should be paid attention to in the operation of power capacitors and the corresponding treatment methods, which are for reference by colleagues.
1. Ambient temperature
The ambient temperature around the capacitor should not be too high or too low. If the ambient temperature is too high, the heat generated by the capacitor will not go out; and if the ambient temperature is too low, the oil in the capacitor may freeze, and the electric shock is easy to wear. According to the relevant technical conditions of capacitors, the working temperature of capacitors is usually capped at 40 C. In most parts of the country, the temperature is below this temperature, so there is usually no need to adopt special cooling facilities. If there is a heat source near the capacitor, it is possible to increase the room temperature to above 40 degrees C, then the ventilation should be taken, otherwise the capacitor should be removed immediately. The lower limit of the ambient temperature of the capacitor should be determined according to the type and nature of the medium in the capacitor. The medium in type YY capacitor is mineral oil, even if it is not below -45 C, it will not freeze, so -40 C is the lower limit of its ambient temperature. The medium in the YL capacitor is easier to freeze, so the ambient temperature must be higher than -20 C.
